What is glass bottle decal technology?

Glass bottle decals are usually decorated with patterns on the bottle body, then put into the kiln for firing, and then firmly attach the patterns to the glaze of the porcelain. Specifically, the production process of decal glass bottles is to directly stick plastic decals on the blown glass wine bottles, send them into the kiln by conveyor belts, and make them after being fired in the heating zone, high temperature zone, and cooling zone. Glass wine bottles can be made into beautiful colorful patterns. This process combined with the molded pattern process can obtain glass wine bottles with three-dimensional colorful patterns.

Features of decal glass wine bottles

Decal wine bottles have different colors and bright colors. Today’s decal glass bottles are not only colorful, but also pay attention to the fineness and brightness of the decal paper. Different decals are affixed to different wine bottles, and the colors and effects they reflect are also very different. An important point about decals is design and craftsmanship. On the basis of good design, attention should also be paid to the continuous improvement of decal craftsmanship and the improvement of technical level.

The process of customizing decal glass bottles for spirits customers

The glass bottle decal process is a technical job, and there are many processes involved, generally including:

Step 1: When making decals, you must use good ink, good platemakers, good screens, and good machines to print good decals.

Step 2: After the decals are completed, test bake to see if it is what the customer wants.

Step 3: Arrange decals after a comprehensive inspection of the decals

Step 4: Decals must be made strictly according to the samples, there must be no blisters on the surface, and the water must be wiped off with a towel to avoid bursting during baking.

Step 5: QC completes the inspection, waits for drying, conducts a test bake, and then performs batch decals.

Step 6: QC conducts a complete inspection of the finished product.

Step 7: Finished product packaging, customer inspection and delivery.

How to make decals on the surface of glass bottles

1 Install the furnace

Take the wine bottle as an example, it can be installed from the bottom of the furnace to the furnace mouth, or it can be installed in two or three layers to the furnace mouth, but the kiln skin must be laid between each layer. When loading the furnace, each piece must be straight and not skewed; there must be a certain distance between each piece, and they cannot be squeezed together; when sealing the top, three fire holes must be left in a triangular position, the holes must be straight from the top, and finally a large exhaust port must be left between the holes.

2 Burning furnace

First, light half a basket of charcoal and pour it along the middle of the furnace. After the charcoal burns, add unburned charcoal and let it burn with the charcoal that has been burned in the furnace. When all the charcoal around is ignited and the flame comes up, add charcoal to the interlayer and gradually fill it up. Seal the top exhaust port. After the charcoal is ignited, clamp another large piece of burning charcoal on it. After that, observe the color of the fire through the fire hole at any time. When the bottom is carmine red and the top is orange-yellow, you can turn off the fire. The baking time for each furnace is generally 5-6 hours.

3 Turn off the fire

The method is to remove all the charcoal from the fire mouth, then let it cool naturally, and then take the product out of the furnace after cooling.

Technical requirements for decal technology

The label on the decal glass bottle must meet the requirements of the proofing sample, with complete drawings, correct text, logos and patterns. The layout is accurate, with a deviation of ≤3mm; the specifications and dimensions meet the requirements of the drawings. The text and lines are clear and beautiful, the edges are smooth, and the fonts are free of deformation, defects, wrinkles, broken lines, tilt, etc. The color of the glass bottle meets the requirements of the proofing sample. The color of the label on the same batch of glass bottles should be consistent, and no obvious color difference is allowed.

When decaling glass bottles, you can use a decal scraper to scrape as evenly as possible to make the decal and the bottle perfectly combined, and scrape off the bubbles in the middle, so that during the baking process, we will not have the phenomenon of decal rupture due to the presence of bubbles. If this phenomenon occurs after decaling, it is unqualified and the decal needs to be removed and re-decaled and baked.

Precautions for the production of decal glass wine bottles

  1. During the decaling process of the glass bottle, the decal position must be correct and no offset can occur. Only after decaling can it be even and perfectly combined with the bottle. If the decal position is offset, the bottle after decaling will also be incorrect, affecting the beauty of the bottle.
  2. There are many holes on the baked decal paper. This is because the bubbles are not scraped off after the decal paper is applied, or the surface of the decal paper is not kept dry before decaling. For glass bottles with decal problems, you can scrape them off with dilute hydrochloric acid and re-bake the decals.
  3. If the decal paper does not match the wine bottle and there are bubbles, the decal paper will be damaged after the wine bottle is burned. The wine bottle cannot be sold directly and needs to be sent to the factory for reprocessing or the entire baking process is repeated.

Decal is an important part of the glass bottle decal process. With the development of the economy and society, the decal skills will become more and more sophisticated, making the decal pattern more detailed and realistic. At the same time, it also improves the control of stress when the glass bottle is used, and reduces the fragility of various types of glass bottles.

Common problems and solutions in the production process of decal glass bottles

  1. The main reason for the red color of decal glass bottles in the production process is that the temperature is too high, the speed of the mesh belt is too slow, and the added decolorizer undergoes a reduction reaction.
  2. The poor adhesion of decals in the production process of decal glass bottles is mainly caused by low temperature, in addition to the material of the decal itself. Due to the different materials of decals, the temperature required for decal glass bottles is also different. Therefore, the decals on glass bottles should be adjusted from time to time.
  3. In the process of making decal glass bottles, the decals bubble up and there are many holes on the baked decals. The reason is that after the decals are applied, the bubbles in the decals are not brushed off, or the water on the surface of the decals is not completely dry, and the decals are applied immediately. For decaled but unqualified glass bottles, dilute hydrochloric acid can be scraped off, re-decaled and baked.
  4. In the production process of decal glass bottles, some unevenness will occur during the production of decals. If the water source is not clean, clean water should be replaced immediately to ensure uniform decals.
  5. If the decal does not match the bottle well, if there are bubbles, the decal will break after the bottle is completed.
