5 common packaging methods for glass bottles

Common glass bottle packaging methods:

  1. Glass bottles

Since glass bottles do not have secondary processing, as long as the glass bottles are not damaged during transportation and there is no pollution in the glass bottles, the customer’s requirements can be met. Therefore, the packaging method of glass bottles is relatively simple. Use ordinary paper grids to separate the glass bottles and pack them in ordinary cartons or put the glass bottles on PP boards.

  1. Decorated glass bottles

Since glass bottles are generally heavy, the decoration part is easily scratched during production and transportation, so it needs special protection. In the early days, most glass bottle manufacturers packaged each glass bottle separately with PE bags and then put them in cartons with grids. At present, the operators of canning plants in the European and American markets need to spend a lot of time to remove the PE bags for the packaging method of eliminating PE bags, which greatly affects the work efficiency of the filling plant and the increase in costs. Therefore, filling manufacturers are not willing to use this packaging method. Since glass manufacturers have different abilities in decoration, some manufacturers have relatively good decoration firmness. After testing, it was found that the packaging method of coated paper grids can also meet the quality requirements.

However, some glass manufacturers’ decoration firmness is not very good, and there will be scratches during the transportation test, which cannot meet the quality requirements. After a lot of tests, it was found that the packaging method of PE foam grids can meet the quality requirements: the glass is not damaged and the decoration is not scratched. After testing, the glass bottles with decorations packaged in this way can also meet the quality requirements when shipped abroad.

The test results of packaging (carton + liner + kraft paper grid + large PE bag + plastic film) are shown in the figure. After vibration test and high temperature test, the packaging bag skin is not worn. This is also an effective packaging method for decorations with poor firmness. At the same time, it has been shipped to customers many times and no defects have been found.

For the above packaging methods, the operators of the filling plant have to take each glass bottle out of the box manually, which greatly reduces the work efficiency. For some products with large quantities, the filling plant will consider investing in an automatic bottle loading machine, and the above packaging methods cannot meet the requirements.

After testing, the following two packaging methods can meet the requirements:

  1. Insert the decorated glass bottles into a customized plastic tray. When loading the bottles, the robot can automatically take out the glass bottles and put them into the production line.
  2. Stack the decorated glass bottles tightly on the PP board. When loading the bottles, the machine pushes all the glass bottles in each layer into the bottle unscrambler.
